There are times when it’s to your advantage to use plastic.
To complete this How-To you will need:
Information about your credit and debit cards
Step 1: Read the fine print
Read the fine print. Find out exactly what sort of fees you’re being charged. Is there a per-transaction fee associated with your debit card? Does your credit card charge a very high Annual Percentage Rate, or APR?
Step 2: Cover your charges
Only use your debit card if you have enough money in your checking account to cover your charges. Your bank might have high penalties for dipping below your minimum balance.
Step 3: Pay off immediately
Pay back money as soon as possible. If you do have to carry a balance, make sure you have a low APR. A small amount of debt can multiply into something large and unwieldy.
Step 4: Keep your cards safe
No matter which card you use, be sure to keep track of it and to keep the card number safe, and the PIN number for you debit card in a separate, safe place. Be sure to alert your financial institution immediately if your card is lost, stolen, or if you suspect it’s being used fraudulently.
Tip: If you use your debit card to make a purchase, opt to use it as a credit card, allowing you to sign for a purchase rather than entering your PIN, which offers you more protection in case of theft.
Step 5: Use in place of cash
Great times to use your debit card are when your bank isn’t in the area, meaning you’d pay a hefty ATM fee to get cash, or when you simply don’t feel like lugging cash around. Enjoy the freedom!

Wikileaks vs. Credit Cards
Many were hopeful that WikiLeaks donations were being permitted once again to the organization after reports came out in Iceland saying donations were again being transferred to Julian Assange’s organization. But according to Visa it was a mistake that donations were once again open and there was no intention to get the cash flowing back to Assange’s group. Data shows Wikileaks has lost access to about $15 million in funding during the credit card companies’ blackout.

UK chip and pin credit / debit cards are insecure (11Feb10)
A not totally unsurprising development from those that look at security, the supposedly secure chip and pin facility in UK credit and debit cards is easily broken and fraudulent transactions are easily made. Unsurprisingly, the useless UK banks say it’s not our problem. The chip and pin system was designed to offload blame for fraud onto the customer away from the banks that enable the fraud in the first place. And now with RFID in UK credit and debit cards, fraud will be even easier and impossible to dispute.

Credit Card With EInk Display Keep You Safe While Online Shopping
ePaper http://www.netbooknews.com Think that ePaper is for eReaders only? EInk wants you to think otherwise with a display that they’ve put together showing several other applications that ePaper would be great for. This transition towards other uses is a necessary step since the price of eReaders is slowly edging toward that of tablets. If eReaders want to remain competitive they’re going to have to drop in price or change thier model to being free with content subscription. I’m not saying that they will be replaced by tablets but only that if they want to maintain sales they are going to have to look at alternative uses.
We get to see a few idea’s on the emerging direction of ePaper in the video below. You’ll see display’s in credit cards so when you’re doing some online shopping you’re transactions and identity will be secure or a mifi display so you’re not stealing power from your connectivity to check settings. This is just the tip of the ice berg, the biggest potential for ePaper I feel is going to be in digital signage, think of all of the retail outlets that change prices constantly. It not a market many people think of but I think it will play a huge role in the future of ePaper.
What we have below is one of the more compelling uses of ePaper, it not going to be as high volume as digital signage, but it a great use case for ePaper in credit cards. Still not convinced? Think of those people who travel alot or purchase frequently online. The red flags alone cause a series of phone calls to verify identity, think of instead having a credit card that could be used to prove my identity when purchasing online. The card would have an e-ink display, making it impossible to copy. Every time you would want to make a transaction, simply press a button and it generates a new number.
Electronic paper technology isn’t anything new but the idea of an e-ink display on a disposable item means that we’ll be seeing ePaper on disposable items alot more in the future.
